Lecture | Mixed-blessings of hope: Motivating and demotivating effects of hope on performance readiness.
Sarah Klein is an external doctoral student at BTU at the Chair of Empirical Business Research and Transformation under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Diemo Urbig. She conducts research on hope in organizational and entrepreneurial contexts, focusing in particular on the motivational effects of hope on human decision-making and behavior. After studying business psychology at the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences in Cologne, Sarah Klein studied management and marketing with a focus on HR at the University of Wuppertal. Currently, in addition to her doctorate, she lectures at the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences in Cologne in the psychology program and regularly presents her research results at national and international conferences.
In her lecture, Sarah Klein questions the extent to which hope positively or negatively influences one's own willingness to exert effort. She presents the results of an experiment from her doctoral thesis and discusses the divergent effects that hope can have on behavior. With her presentation, she shares recent findings on hope as a relevant psychological construct in private and professional contexts and also provides insight into her research to date as part of her doctoral studies at BTU.
Sarah Klein is supported in her PhD project by the BTU's Equal Opportunities Office within the framework of the Professorinnenprogramm III.
