COLLOC22 Hybrid Workshop in Rio de Janeiro Workshop | Master Exkursion

"COLLOC" stands for "Collaborative Production of Transformation Knowledge in Self-Organized Occupations". The workshop is part of the collaborative "COLLOC Workshop Series", which aims at the production of transformation knowledge. This kind of knowledge is made possible through the participation of numerous stakeholders, such as local actors and students. Participants have the opportunity to learn and share their expertise on a concrete social problem in a local context by practising, testing and reflecting on mutual learning and transdisciplinary work with different actors from academia and society. Furthermore, students of the Master of Urban Planning learn and implement a methodology for planning and designing systemic scenarios that lead to 1:1 interventions in space and integrated strategies for the future development of a self-organised community in Rio de Janeiro. This methodology, called Dual Design Strategy, will provide students with tools to approach the multiple processes of human and non-human actors in complex planning and design projects. Furthermore, students will have the opportunity to experiment with transdisciplinary methods and develop their skills to stimulate together in transformation.

The workshop will take place in three phases. Methodologically, appropriate tools will be provided for the three phases of the project. These will enable sustained participation in the entire workshop process for both online and on-site participants. Participation of BTU students is planned online  (however, on-site participation is possible at their own responsibility). The workshop language is English (knowledge of Portuguese or Spanish is an advantage)

During the workshop, participants will be expected to:

- combine and integrate their practical expertise with the local expertise of academics, residents and students from TUB and UFRJ.

- support the ongoing projects as a means of knowledge exchange and production

- jointly design future scenarios for the further development of the focal area

- develop local "solutions to problems" by applying systemic design principles and transdisciplinary approaches

- Develop ideas for the implementation of jointly produced knowledge in 1:1 interventions, which are implemented together with students and local actors as a design-build project.

This module is related to the excursion Collaborative Landscapes from the FG Landscape Architecture TUB and in the framework of the DAAD funded international alumni workshop COLLOC 2022 - Collaborative Production of Transformation Knowledge in Self-Organized Occupations, which comprises a preparatory phase (04-06 Nov COLLOC lectures and activities online), an implementation phase (11-20 Nov) and a subsequent follow-up phase. More information about the COLLOC workshop series can be found here and a video of our latest COLLOC 2021 here.
