Phase II: Building Toward Rehabilitation June 2025 to January 2026

The second phase of the project focused on preparing the Bazar for future rehabilitation by addressing critical structural issues and initiating selective reconstruction. The preparation was carried out through a programme of capital works, community engagement, and project documentation.

1. Capital work

This involved physical conservation and reconstruction activities on the historic Bazar Abbas building to address structural risks, improve safety, and enhance usability. These measures were implemented through practical on-site training workshops as part of an integrated educational programme.

2. Stakeholder Engagement and Local Management

This component involved working with the Bazar’s tenants, local authorities, and  other stakeholders to establish a shared approach to the site’s future use and stewardship.

3. Documentation and Publication

To ensure the dissemination of the knowledge and experiences generated by the project, this component focused on research, writing, and visual communication.
