Profile
The cooperation between the BTU and universities in the MENA region facilitates a rigorous professional exchange for postgraduate students, lecturers, and faculty members in architecture and urban planning. Since its inception, the network has worked to establish a stable, institutionally integrated platform for collaborative research and multilateral partnership.
Focus
The central theme of this cooperation is urban design, the critical intersection of architecture and urban planning, with a primary focus on the revitalisation and integrated development of historic cities.
The MEC Unit builds upon extensive expertise in cautious urban renewal and the enhancement of historic quarters, competencies central to the Faculty at BTU since 1992. By integrating these practices into a multilateral educational framework, the unit focuses on case-specific studies that address the complex contemporary challenges facing the Middle East’s diverse urban heritage.
Collaborative Activities
Since 2003, the unit has coordinated a wide array of joint initiatives. The success of our Summer Schools and Urban Design Workshops, held annually since 2006 at various partner institutions, continues to demonstrate the practical value of this academic and cultural exchange.
