In the realm of intangeable heritage built structures form a core category of objects. As buildings or as technical installations – be they new or be they inherited – they constitute today´s built environment. Building archaeology an approach to document and to investigate the components of our built environment on various levels and connected to different interests. In the tradition of German academia building archaeology is closely linked tot he architect´s perspective on planning, engineering and design and connected to corresponding bodies of knowledge.
The course on building archaeology offers an opportunity to get in touch with basic concepts of building archaeology and documentation of architecture. For the exercise part the course will focus on the elements of buildings which requires special attention to detail.
