COCO – Das partizipative Stadtlabor
Seit 2024 betreibt das Fachgebiet Stadtmanagement mit dem "COCO – Commoning Cottbus" ein partizipatives Stadtlabor in der Cottbuser Innenstadt. Es versteht sich als Reallabor für urbane Transformation, in dem wissenschaftliche Reflexion und praktische Erprobung ineinandergreifen. Zudem ist es ein offener Ort, in dem alle Interessierten selbst aktiv werden können. Im COCO werden Fragestellungen der Stadtentwicklung nicht ausschließlich im akademischen Diskurs behandelt, sondern mit Studierenden und in Kooperation mit Bürger:innen und Initiativen in konkrete Handlungsräume übersetzt. Ziel ist es, Stadt und Region gemeinschaftlich zu gestalten und dabei neue Formen des Co-Creation und Commoning auszuprobieren. Mit seiner Verortung in der Schlosskirchpassage, einem Ort vielfältiger zivilgesellschaftlicher Akteure, fügt sich das COCO in ein Netzwerk ein, das demokratische Teilhabe, soziale Innovation und gesellschaftliches Engagement in Cottbus stärkt. Damit trägt es nicht nur zur Stärkung der lokalen Zivilgesellschaft, sondern auch zur Weiterentwicklung von Forschung und Lehre im Bereich des Stadtmanagements bei und verbindet die Universität direkt mit der Stadtgesellschaft. COCO – The Participatory Urban Laboratory
Since 2024, the Chair of Urban Management has been running "COCO – Commoning Cottbus", a participatory urban lab located in the city center of Cottbus. It serves as a living laboratory for urban transformation, where academic reflection and practical experimentation are closely intertwined. It is an open space where anyone interested can actively participate. At COCO, questions of urban development are not discussed solely within academic discourse but are translated, together with students and in cooperation with citizens and local initiatives, into concrete fields of action. The aim is to shape the city and region collectively and to explore new forms of co-creation and commoning. Located in the Schlosskirchpassage, a place that brings together diverse civic actors, COCO is part of a network that strengthens democratic participation, social innovation, and civic engagement in Cottbus. In doing so, it not only contributes to empowering local civil society but also advances research and teaching in the field of urban management, linking the university directly with the urban community.
