Climate change effects on natural ecosystems

Climate change is having profound impacts on natural ecosystems, with effects on nutrient cycles (nitrogen and phosphor), plant and microbial functioning, biodiversity, and greenhouse gas emissions. Factors such as rising temperatures, changing precipitation patterns, disruption of seasonal climate, more frequent extreme events and elevated atmospheric CO2 content are investigated with experimental approaches in the field.

      Re-generation of landscape and soils

With the aim of sustainable landscape and soil regeneration, the focus is on restoring degraded ecosystems while improving soil health, biodiversity and ecosystem services. We hope to reverse land degradation caused by human activities, while promoting sustainable land management practices.

Strategies include reforestation, erosion control, agroforestry, and modern fertiliser products that improve soil structure, organic matter quality and fertility. These efforts aim to revive landscapes, making them more resilient to climate change and support sustainable agriculture.

        Sustainable management in Agro-ecosystems

Our field scale experiments design and manage productive and environmentally friendly agricultural systems, while ensuring food quality, preserving natural resources, and secure livelihoods for farmers and communities.
