Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Historic Districts and Preservation of Architectural Heritage after Armed Conflicts BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg, American University of Beirut 2021 - 2022

BTU Cottbus – Senftenberg and the American University of Beirut has initiated a two-year cooperation project which aims at contributing to the post-conflict rehabilitation and reconstruction of the historic cities of Syria and preservation of its architectural heritage. The project focuses on capacity building and promotion of young Syrian academics and practitioners in the field and searches for adaptive and context-based strategies through active collaboration and dialogue with the project partners and the concerned Syrian participants. Development of conceptual approaches for dealing with new challenges as the result of socio-economic changes as well as the question of climate adaptations within the historic cities will also be taken into account. The assessment of specific pre- and post-conflict circumstances of each city that have enjoyed diverse and rich urban heritage for centuries and now are facing overwhelming series of complications, such as heavy destructions, economic decline, social tension and environmental crisis, shall come into play within the process of developing new approaches.

The starting event of this project is a two-day webinar and online discussion which will take place on 14th and 15th of April 2021. For participation at this event see the call.
