What is the framework
Brandenburg University of Cottbus-Senftenberg in cooperation with the American University of Beirut and the support of German Jordanian University organises a 3-days online block course and a one-week workshop in Amman as part of the project Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Historic Districts and Preservation of Architectural Heritage after Armed Conflicts. This project runs in the framework of the DAAD Programme for University Cooperation with Jordan and Lebanon to Support Syrian University Staff 2021-22
Project
What is the focus
Within these two events the question of urban recovery and reconstruction in the context of Syrian historic cities will be raised. The focus will be laid on the impact of socio-economic dynamics on the urban and architectural reconstruction of historic quarters and hence the interplay between the morphological and socio-economic processes of recovery will be investigated.
Applicants
Who can apply
Study fields of applicants should be either urban design, architecture, urban planning or heritage studies with background in architecture studies
  • Master or PhD Syrian students studying inside or outside Syria
  • Young Syrian graduates (bachelor or Master) inside or outside Syria
  • Master or senior bachelor students (4th or 5th year) of GJU, AUB and BTU
Support
What do we offer
3-days online bock course from 19th to 21st of September 7-days face to-face workshop in November in the German Jordanian university (the exact date will be announced soon). Accommodation and travel allowance according to the DAAD rates to those participants who are not residing in Amman

  • Your Portfolio of best relevant projects with a maximum of three samples
  • Proof of English proficiency

Call for Application Online Kick-off Event 14 - 15 April 2021

MEC Unit invites Syrian students as well as young Syrian academics and professinals to take part at the Kick-off event of the university cooperation between BTU and AUB on Rehabilitation and Reconstruction of Historic Districts and Preservation of Architectural Heritage after Armed ConflictsThis two-day webinar and online discussion is a prelude to a series of events during the period of 2021 and 2022 including a block course in May 2021 and a 10-day workshop in September 2021. For future events in Beirut or Cottbus the travel and accommodation costs
will be covered through DAAD funding. During the kick-off event, pertinent experiences and practices will be shared and a base knowledge on the challenges of dealing with the war-torn Syrian cities will be built.

Who can apply?

Students as well as young graduates, academics and professionals of Syrian nationlaity in the fields of architecture, urban design and urban planning inside and outside Syria.
