VDI-Workshop: Efficient boiler and power plant systems
The cross-sectional discipline of polymer-based lightweight design is one of the key technologies in Germany and Europe and has a fundamental influence on technological progress in product development. Innovation drivers in Brandenburg are primarily the strongly represented aerospace technology and rail vehicle construction. The development of highly efficient lightweight construction systems is increasingly playing a key role, especially in these areas. Through the joint appointment of the Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus - Senftenberg (BTU) and the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e. V. (Fraunhofer Society for the Promotion of Applied Research), the company has been able to achieve a significant increase in the number of new products. With the transformation of the junior professorship of lightweight design with structured materials into the W3 professorship of Polymer-based Lightweight Design, all important lightweight construction competencies of the value chain can be represented under one roof in the future - starting with the development of special polymers and semi-finished products made of fiber composites, to the design of prototypes and the implementation of large-scale production processes - from monomers to energy-efficient high-performance composite components. In comparison to the German research landscape, such bundling effects are an absolute unique selling point. Thus, lightweight design research will in future contribute even more as a nucleus directly to the strengthening of Brandenburg as a science and business location. The workshop will present potentials for new applications and an outlook on future lightweight construction technologies. The lectures will be followed by a tour of the laboratory and experimental fields.
