Network access for student councils and student council representatives to the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg campus network
For network connections of student councils/students on the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg campus, the network usage regulations generally require authenticated access.
Network connections in university rooms used by student councils or student council committees are generally provided via the service: ‘LAN access in public areas of the BTU’.
- Connected network devices are dynamically assigned an IP configuration via DHCP.
- Connected network devices can communicate with each other immediately within the student council network.
- Network access to the campus network/Internet is activated with the central BTU account via a web interface that is automatically displayed when a website is opened for the first time (Access Gate access).
The following rules apply:
- No access points, routers or NAT instances may be operated on the above-mentioned network connections.
- It is strictly prohibited to allow persons from outside the university access to the campus network.
- The operation of server services in the student council network that can be accessed from the campus network is only possible in exceptional cases and requires approval from IT Services.
Guidelines for operating server services in the student network
- For reasons of stability and security of the campus network, mail and DNS servers may not be operated.
- Services that are already provided centrally by BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg are not supported.
- The student council is obliged to report the administrator responsible for the respective server systems to the IT Services department (regularly once per semester). The responsible administrator must be entered in the administrator list (sysops). Like every administrator at the BTU, they are obliged to keep the operating system and all installed software up to date, to take standard virus protection measures and to generally prevent damage to the BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg system through its use.
- Student council server systems will only be accessible from the Internet via VPN.
Existing network connections of individual student councils and student council committees will be switched to the above-mentioned service: ‘LAN access in public areas of the BTU’ at a time announced by email.
