Terms of use for the BTU-account

1. Scope of application

The terms of use apply equally to the BTU account itself and to all systems and networks to which the user gains access by using the BTU account.

2. Rights of users:

The IKMZ of BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg supports the exchange of information and access to local, national and international institutions, the use of network services and network resources as well as the right to freedom of expression. The use of the account is subject to compliance with the rights of third parties and these terms of use.

3. Account usage:

Accounts are generally personal. They may only be used by the account holder without the express permission of IKMZ/IT- Services. Passing on access data or authentication features to other persons or setting up any kind of circumvention mechanism is prohibited. If access data or authentication features are lost or the possibility of them becoming known or being used by third parties must be taken into account, IKMZ/IT-Services have to be informed immediately at it-support(at)b-tu.de. When the account holder leaves the BTU, but at the latest when the authorization of use expires, the account holder is obliged to delete the access information on his/her devices or to return any provided access hardware to the IMKZ/IT-Services without delay.

4. Two-factor authentication:

BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg uses two-factor authentication for access to its systems. Users can use software for this purpose in accordance with the recommendations of the IMKZ / IT-Services. The recommendations and the instructions for setting them up can be found at Two-factor authentication . The IKMZ / IT-Services may provide a hardware token for two-factor authentication on request. The BTU reserves the right to request an appropriate deposit of €20 for the issuance of the hardware token.

5. Scope of use:

The aforementioned computer systems are provided exclusively for the purposes of research and education as a means of access for student and academic work. Commercial use of the resources provided is prohibited. Insofar as no explicit usage limits are set, users are obliged to use the resources sparingly and only to the extent necessary. If individual users use the services to an extent significantly above average and which is likely to impair the availability or quality of service for other users, this constitutes a breach of fair use.

6. Network usage:

When using external network services, it is the responsibility of the user to inform themselves in advance about the applicable terms of use and to comply with them, for example the DFN „Benutzungsordnung“ . Violations of the terms of use of connected network services are also considered a violation of the terms of use of the BTU account.

7. Contents:

Sending, offering, storing and retrieving content that violates the integrity, dignity, personal rights or the right of informational self-determination of others using BTU IT services is prohibited. In particular, it is pointed out that all legal provisions (e.g. DSGVO, StGB, JuSchG, UrhG) have to be observed.

8. Violations:

Violations of the terms of use of the BTU account may, depending on the severity, result in a warning, a request to cease the behavior, a restriction of the performance parameters or the temporary or permanent suspendation of the account holder from individual or all services offered. The BTU reserves the right to take further steps under civil law. Reference is also made to possible consequences under criminal and regulatory law.
