Mail service of the BTU Cottbus - Senftenberg
The IT Services department at BTU operates central mail servers for global communication via email.
All users have 1 GiB of storage space on the incoming mail server for storing and processing incoming emails. Employees also have more storage space available (currently 4 GiB) within the scope of existing possibilities.
Traditionally, only limited amounts of data should be transferred via electronic mail, so that the BTU mail servers can send to up to 100 recipients simultaneously and process emails up to a maximum size of 25 MB (including all attachments). For larger amounts of data, other services (e.g., OwnCloud, WebShare) should be used.
Automatic configuration works for most email programs. You only need to enter your email address (@b-tu.de), the account type (IMAP), and your login details (BTU account).
The names of the mail servers are
- for outgoing mail: Mailout.b-tu.de
- for incoming mail: Mailin.b-tu.de
The incoming mail server must be configured for the IMAP protocol.
If you want to use the central mail service of the BTU Cottbus, you need a BTU account. You can find your email address and other email settings in the web portal of your BTU account web portal under “Email.”
Mail forwarding:
If you want to forward your emails to another mailbox, you can do this in the web portal of the BTU account under “Email.”
WebMail:
For system- and application-independent processing of your emails, a convenient web-based application, including address management and calendar function, is available in the web portal of BTU Webmail.
Organizational mailbox
The organizational mailbox is a shared mailbox for institutions, projects, etc. Emails received there can be viewed and processed by several people via their BTU account. This mailbox is not counted towards the personal mailbox quota of the BTU account. Users of an organizational mailbox must subscribe to it in their email program. Only then will access be possible.
To create an organizational mailbox, a short name is required, which will then be part of the email address (<short name>@b-tu.de). In order to ensure a consistent external image of our university in all communications, this name space is coordinated by the Communications and Marketing Department, which assigns appropriate short names. Therefore, please contact the Communications and Marketing Department directly with your request.
Users are currently activated for the mailbox by the IT Services department (postmaster@b-tu.de) on behalf of the contacts responsible for the assigned short name. Only these named users can make changes to the access rights of the organizational mailbox.
