Seminars

"Introduction to polymer-based lightweight construction"

[6 KP|4 SWS| winter semester | module no.: 13045]

After successfully completing the module "Introduction to polymer-based lightweight construction", students will be able to recognise the complexity of plastic products and transfer the special features of the global mass production of plastic articles to individual industries. Furthermore, they are able to implement lightweight construction methods and manufacturing processes in compliance with valid design guidelines. Students acquire specialised knowledge of the design, manufacture and layout of components made of structured materials. The deepening of knowledge is accompanied by practical exercises and internships in the laboratories of BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg and, if necessary, with various industrial partners.

Topics

  • Lightweight construction materials with their physical properties
  • Design rules for the design of lightweight constructions
  • Basic principles of integrating functions into plastic components
  • integrative material combinations of plastics and metals
  • Differential, integral and mixed construction methods
  • special requirements of Electrical Engineering (e.g. housing production, contacting and connector production)
  • Surface modifications
  • Design of force transmission and suitable joining techniques for lightweight structures
  • Blow moulding and injection moulding technology
