Seminars
Non-metallic materials
[6 CP | 6 SWS|winter semester | module no.: 11237]
After completing the module, students will be able to
- Have an overview knowledge of material development,
- know methods for characterisation,
- know the use of materials in specific applications,
- select and modify materials independently when given the appropriate task
In addition, the students' social skills such as the ability to cooperate, advise, lead and collaborate as well as other individual skills such as diligence, perseverance, curiosity and initiative are funded.
Topics
- Frequently used material/material classes
- Composite materials (including nanocomposites)
- Building materials, e.g. binders, stones, building ceramics, wood
- Glasses, glass fibres
- Important manufacturing processes (e.g. sintering, polymerisation, sol-gel processes)
- Important moulding processes (e.g. casting, pressing, extrusion)
- Recycling of materials
- Utilisation of residual materials and renewable raw materials
- Frequently used methods for analysis and characterisation (e.g. thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, microscopy, porosimetry, selected spectroscopic methods)
