Installation
General information on authorisation
  1. The SPSS licence authorisation wizard must be launched within 14 days to obtain the final licence code from SPSS.
  2. There are three ways to obtain a licence: via the Internet, email or telephone.
  3. SPSS will ask for the authorisation code and lock code. The lock code is automatically generated from a hardware address on the disk.
  4. SPSS generates a licence code that is linked to the PC's hardware.
  5. In order to request a new authorisation code from SPSS (IT Services cannot issue another authorisation code!) in the event of a disk crash or similar, you should make a note of the lock code. This appears in the licensing wizard on the left. You should also copy the licence key after successful licensing (e.g. into a Word document).
Reinstalling IBM SPSS Statistics that has already been activated on the same hard drive

A complete reinstallation is necessary if the hard drive needs to be reformatted. Then proceed as follows:

  1. Back up the lservrc file from the installation directory (in good time, preferably immediately after activation).
This file can be used to reactivate SPSS Statistics, e.g. after reinstallation on the same hard drive, by copying it back to the installation folder.
  2. Uninstall SPSS Statistics completely
  3. Delete any remaining files in the SPSS directory
(Your own data or result files should never be saved in the installation directory.)
  4. Reinstall SPSS Statistics and then cancel the authorisation wizard.
  5. Copy the lservrc file back to the installation directory.
  6. Finally, open SPSS Statistics and check the expiry date.

- Start SPSS Statistics.
- Open a syntax window with File -> New -> Syntax
- Enter the syntax command ‘show lic.’ (without the quotation marks)
- Position the cursor in the command and execute it by clicking on the [Execute current command] button (the triangle to the right of the ‘binoculars’)
- The expiry date of the activated SPSS modules is then displayed in the output window.

If SPSS Statistics crashes with an error message after the internal licence check, the expiry date can be displayed using the showlic.exe program in the installation directory. If it is correct, there is a problem that can generally only be solved with the help of SPSS.

If, contrary to expectations, SPSS Statistics reports an invalid licence and the authorisation code has been used up, a new licence code must be requested from SPSS.

Activating IBM SPSS Statistics after a hard drive change

A new activation code is required after a hard drive change. To request this, please contact Support and have the used activation code and lock code ready.
