Common difficulties

You cannot receive or send emails.

Please enter the computer ‘Mailin.B-TU.De’ as your incoming mail server. Please use Mailout.B-TU.De as your outgoing mail server.

If you have password problems, please read our instructions:

You cannot send emails.

The BTU Cottbus mail server only accepts emails from computers in the BTU network or after successful authentication with the BTU account. If you use a different provider, you must authenticate yourself with a valid BTU account on the ‘outgoing mail server’.

The maximum number of recipients for an email is limited to 100.

The maximum size of an email (including all attachments) is 20 MB.

You cannot read emails.

If you are not on the university network, activate protocol encryption using SSL in your email programme.

Is your password correct? Be sure to disable password storage in your email programme.

You are not receiving emails from certain senders.

In most cases, the sender will receive their email back with a message indicating the error that occurred and should ask their email provider to change it if necessary. Unfortunately, the IT-Services cannot help in these cases. Don't be intimidated by the name (institutions, universities). They are just people working there too.

You need to read emails but do not have an email client installed or configured on your computer.

If you want to view and edit your mailbox without having to install a suitable program, you can use a convenient web interface (BTU webmail), which also includes address management and calendar functions.
