Safety aspects

Network security measures:

  • Connection to the campus network and the Internet is only possible after successful network login.
  • Data for network login is transmitted in encrypted form between the user PC and the access gate.

Recommended security measures for user PCs:

Immediately after establishing a network connection, your PC is connected to the public access network along with all other connected PCs. It can be accessed and contacted by other PCs via the network. You should therefore secure your PC and, if necessary, refer to the documentation for your PC and operating system.

  • Activate a firewall on your system, for example the system firewall on Windows computers.
  • Protect your PC from viruses and worms with an up-to-date virus scanner.
  • Windows operating systems should be kept up to date with Windows Update to close security gaps in the system.
  • File and printer sharing for Microsoft networks should be disabled unless absolutely necessary. Any resources that are shared should always be protected with a secure password.
  • Passwords for your PC and network services should be changed regularly, at least once a quarter, and never stored permanently on the PC.
