Johanna war seit Juli 2011 Mitarbeiterin am Lehrstuhl für Umweltökonomie der BTU Cottbus und arbeitete im Forschungsprojekt SULAMA: Partizipative Forschung zur Unterstützung von nachhaltigem Landmanagement auf dem Mahafaly Plateau in Süd-West Madagaskar.

Nach ihrem Studium war sie bei der Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ, heute GIZ) als Trainee im Bereich ländliche Entwicklung tätig. Während ihres zwölfmonatigen Auslandseinsatzes arbeitete sie v.a. zu Anpassungsstrategien an den Klimawandel im ländlichen Raum Boliviens und Perus.

Johanna Götter studierte Landschaftsökologie und Naturschutz (Diplom) mit Schwerpunkt in Landschaftsökonomie und Umweltethik an der Universität Greifswald. Ihre Abschlussarbeit entstand im Rahmen des Projekts AlpFUTUR in der Arbeitsgruppe Umwelt- und Ressourcenökonomie der Eidgenössischen Forschungsanstalt WSL (Birmensdorf/Schweiz) und beschäftigte sich mit den Stärken und Schwächen gemeinschaftlich versus individuell betriebener Alpwirtschaft im Schweizer Kanton Graubünden. Sie absolvierte ein Praxissemester bei der Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung in Mexico-City wo sie als Projektkoordinatorin das Projekt EcoFair Trade Dialogue. Slow trade - sound farming unterstützte.
