A journey to dreamland On foot and in a wheelchair through the urban jungle

Children and young people in wheelchairs know that it is not always easy to find their way around a big city on their own. Stairs, blocked pavements, kerbs that are too high, a lack of lifts, doors that are too narrow and much more can quickly turn a stroll through the city into an adventurous obstacle course. How do I find a stepless way into the city centre shop? Is there a lift in the library? Does the cinema have seats for wheelchair users? Can I use the bus or are there steps preventing me from getting on? Often (almost) nothing works without the help of a friend. Together with a pedestrian as a friend, many everyday obstacles can be overcome. The game aims to create understanding for the situation of wheelchair users, people with walking disabilities or the elderly and to encourage reflection.

Structure and sequence

Dreamland is a land without obstacles and structural barriers. In Dreamland, there are no differences between people with and without disabilities. But to get to Dreamland, the game teams (each consisting of one wheelchair user and one pedestrian) have to embark on an adventurous journey together through the urban jungle in order to acquire an entrance ticket to Dreamland. The winner is the first team to hold the ticket to Dreamland in their hands and thus pass through the gate to Dreamland together.

Children, young people and adults with and without disabilities can play the game together. The everyday life of people in wheelchairs or with impaired mobility is experienced in a playful way. Larger, magnetic game pieces and a magnetic game board make it possible for people with motor impairments to actively participate in the game. It is ideal for use in youth groups and school classes.
