Minefield

Don't step on it! An exercise that is not only based on trust, communication and effective listening, but also funds movement (outdoors). But be careful, "danger of explosion"!

Number of participants:inside

Minimum: 4
Optimum: 6
Maximum: 10

Duration

15-30 minutes, without evaluation discussion

Place

Open space, a large meadow or large car park measuring at least 5x10 m

Set-up and procedure

Find a free area, e.g. an empty car park or a piece of free grass on the campus. Spread the objects (e.g. tyres, balls, sticks, etc.) randomly over the whole area. The instructor now asks the participants to split into pairs; one of the pairs should be blindfolded. The other person must help their partner with verbal instructions to cross the area without stepping on any objects. The blindfolded person is not allowed to speak or lead by touch. To make the exercise a little more difficult, routes can be set that the "blindfolded participants" have to master.

The material box that can be borrowed from the lab contains

  • several objects (e.g. tyres, balls, mats, etc.)
  • blindfolds
