Picture gallery Impulse cards for workshops (not only) on anti-Muslim racism

"I chose this card - it caught my eye straight away!" "This photo irritated me, so I took it." "The picture rather chose me!"

The picture gallery serves as a classic introductory method for the workshop work. It consists of 35 picture cards that invite the participants to make free associations. This is intended to create a common space for visualising and getting to know each other.

We would like to take this opportunity to express our special thanks to the Association of Binational Families and Partnerships, which provided us with a copy of the material box free of charge. The material is part of ourSensitivity to Discrimination topic box, but can also be borrowed individually.

Set-up and procedure

Preparation: The picture cards are distributed evenly on the floor (classically within a circle of chairs). The participants are now given enough time to get an overview of the picture cards and then select a picture card that particularly appeals to them. The participants can then be asked various questions/tasks, such as

  • Use the picture to introduce yourself to the others.
  • Which picture did you choose? And why?
  • What is your professional background?
