Act Wisely

"Act Wisely - Stress on the Net" is a card game specially designed for children and young people that offers an interactive way to deal with the challenges of conflicts and bullying in the digital space. It offers four controversial situations to be analysed as a team. The aim is to work together to find ways to react correctly to these situations.

The card game also includes various accompanying materials to help educational professionals carry out independent projects on the topic. The card game and the accompanying materials can be used together or separately. The key topics focus on analysing and reflecting on conflict situations. In addition, the players are provided with options for action, relevant knowledge and creative approaches for dealing with the topic. The versatile materials not only fund reflection on stress in the digital environment, but also support the development of action skills and the creative processing of the topic.

We would like to express our special thanks to the Institute for Media Pedagogy in Research and Practice (JFF), which provided our laboratory with a free copy of the card game.

Structure and procedure

First, a game leader is appointed to guide the participants through the game. The prerequisite for the card game is that the technical terms used in the game are clarified in advance. The four yellow situation cards are placed face up in a pile; the red analysis cards are dealt out. The 19 blue action cards are shuffled and dealt to all players.

At the beginning, the top situation card is taken from the pile and read out loud. The next task is to find the matching analysis card for the situation described. Once the players have decided on this, the analysis card is read out loud and placed next to the situation card. One by one, the players now consider whether one of their action cards matches the situation. If it matches, the corresponding action card is placed next to it. If none of the cards match, it is the next player's turn. The round is over when no one has a matching action card, which is resolved by scanning a QR code on the back of the situation card. The game is over when all the situation cards have been played.

Act Wisely is part of our themed box Stress on the Net, but can also be borrowed individually.
