Flying carpet The new Aladdin?

An incredibly funny and ground-breaking cooperation exercise that focuses on the skilful management of processes. No such thing as team dependency? - You bet there is! Try it out for yourself.

Number of participants

Minimum: 5
Optimum: 10-15
Maximum: 20

Duration

5-20 minutes, depending on the intention

Place

Seminar room or outside, with approx. 8x5 metres of free space

Set-up and procedure

Each participant starts by grabbing one end of the 'flying carpet' so that it can be stretched. The (optional) task is to manoeuvre a small ball (or two balls if necessary) over the stretched, highly mobile surface. But be careful: there is a hole in the centre through which the ball(s) can quickly disappear!

Possible activities could be

  • A ball should be manoeuvred once around the very outside of the edge of the flying carpet.
  • A ball should circle the hole as close as possible and then be brought back to the starting point - like a spiral.
  • Players from team A and team B take it in turns to stand around the flying carpet and hold it. For one minute, Team A tries to get the ball into the hole and Team B tries to prevent it from doing the same. Then the roles are swapped: Team B tries to pocket the ball and Team A tries to stop it.
  • One player is under the cloth and tries to see where the ball is. With a quick grab through the large hole, he/she tries to get hold of the ball and pull it down. The team on the cloth tries to avoid this.
  • All players stand on the flying carpet (without shoes, please!). They must then turn the carpet completely round once without any of the players touching the floor. Other aids are of course also prohibited, including "switching" to other objects (chairs, etec.).
