Not one revolution too many

Alcohol is present on a variety of occasions, but harbours risks for teenagers and young adults in particular. Teenagers and young adults should therefore be responsible and self-reflective in their use of alcohol and avoid abusive consumption. "Not one turn too many" is a memo game for alcohol prevention in closed settings. The memory game about alcohol is suitable for peer activities in schools, youth centres or holiday camps and offers prevention at eye level through discussion and encouragement to reflect in small groups. Sharing experiences, exchanging attitudes and opinions, listening, laughing and reflecting are not only allowed, but encouraged. The following applies to both the consumption of alcohol and the game: Switch on your head and avoid too many turns. Whoever has the most pairs of cards at the end wins and also proves they have a good memory.

We would like to express our special thanks to the Bavarian Centre for Prevention and Health Promotion (ZPG)which provided us with a free copy for the laboratory!

Structure and procedure

The game is set up in the same way as the classic memo game. Decide amongst yourselves who will start. If you turn over two cards of the same category, choose one of the two questions. Discuss these in the group. If there is an exclamation mark on the card, read out the corresponding information card. If two cards of different categories are revealed, it is the next person's turn. The aim of the game is to discuss the topic of alcohol. What experiences have I already had with alcohol? Are there things I haven't thought about yet? How do my friends and classmates feel about alcohol? Hopefully, the winners are all those who have been able to share and discuss alcohol. The winner of the game is the person with the most pairs of cards at the end.
