Teamtower

This is a group-dynamic skill exercise that not only encourages communication with each other, but also joint co-operation and stamina. Manual dexterity is also required! At the centre of the exercise is the task of building a tower that is as stable as possible. The exercise is very suitable for analysing group dynamics.

Set-up and procedure

The task is to build a 1 metre high tower out of paper clips and straws together as a team. The team members decide for themselves when they are satisfied with their own tower and have confidence in their construction. The "test" takes place in 2 steps: Does the tower measure 1 metre in height? Is the tower so robust that the folding rule can remain on it for 1 minute? If the tower can withstand the test, the exercise is considered successfully passed. There are different construction variants for building the tower. It is therefore crucial that the group co-ordinates its approach well. The roles of the group members are also revealed through the game. Who takes control? Who actively makes suggestions? Who is easily persuaded? Who stays in the background? The referee observes the teams' approaches and roles. This is followed by a joint reflection. Alternatively, a group can also be used to take on the role of the observer. For example, each player could observe another player.
