Word impulse cards
Telling stories, expressing feelings or describing characteristics - adjectives can be used in a variety of ways and can change the content of sentences to create completely different contexts. The adjective cards can be used to thematise and illustrate this meaning, stimulating creativity. Ideal for use in the seminar on leading conversations.
Number of participants
Minimum: 5
Optimum: 12
Maximum: 20
Duration
10-25 minutes
Space
Seminar room, with at least 3 x 3 metres of free space and a large table area
Structure and procedure:
Writing/telling stories:
A story is written or told based on at least three adjectives (drawn at random by the participants or deliberately selected by laying them out on the table) - a stimulus word story. The only important thing is that all the selected adjectives appear in the story.
Name learning game:
The quiet but thoroughly enjoyable name learning game can be ideal for familiarisation, by hearing names that could be (better) memorised using the adjective cards as an association. This game improves memory performance by linking it to other impressions and perceptions. Everyone picks out an adjective that suits them. Each person then takes it in turn to say something, e.g. "I'm funny Julian." If appropriate, a matching movement/gesture can be made.
To increase the difficulty, one rule of the game can be that the adjectives should begin with the same letter as your own first name, e.g. "I am the attentive Astrid".
It is also possible to organise the adjective game along the lines of the suitcase packing game by having each player repeat the saying and/or movements before bringing their own.
