Total diversity The intersectional game

"Vielfalt total - Das intersektionale Spiel" is a material that raises questions on the topics of "migration, gender and social origin" and encourages players to engage with overlapping mechanisms of discrimination. This is based on three central didactic objectives: To look/find out, to adopt an attitude and to act. The game primarily focusses on the objectives of "looking and finding out". First and foremost, participants are motivated to engage in a thought process about discrimination and difference, to reduce fear of contact and to raise questions that encourage further discussion.

The game can be used anywhere where young people deal with diversity and discrimination. It is particularly suitable for deepening the discussion as part of a broader debate, e.g. in project days, series of lessons or workshops.

Important: The game must always be integrated into a longer work process and cannot stand alone!

  • 25 1-point chips per colour
  • 12 diamonds as awards
  • Optional: 1 face card holder

Set-up and procedure:

The participants are divided into teams of roughly equal size. The game board is positioned in the centre and the game pieces are placed on the corresponding corners. The playing cards are sorted into quiz and action cards and placed face down next to the game board; picture cards form a separate pile.

Game procedure:

The teams take it in turns to roll the dice in a clockwise direction. The game pieces move according to the number rolled. On a 6, the pawn may leave the corner square and enter a starting square. On reaching a playing field, the respective person draws a suitable card and carries out actions.

Cards and actions:

  • Quiz fields: The team answers questions.
  • Action fields: Pantomime, guess terms, or collect terms.
  • Picture fields: Picture cards are read out and shown.
  • Multi-fields: The team chooses the subject area and the type of card itself.

The game ends at the end of the specified time. The team with the most points wins. The teams also receive bonus points for special achievements in the "Quiz" and "Action" categories.
